In this analysis, we examine just how prime-age (many years 25–54) both women and men allocate their time, general and also by parental status. We call focus on two principles highly relevant to increasing work force involvement rates: task search and caregiving. We find that used males, irrespective of parental status, invest similar levels of time on work, commuting, and care that is personal. For unemployed or nonparticipant guys with kids, a meaningful percentage of their time is allocated to nonmarket work and caregiving, whereas those without kiddies allocate more hours to leisure.
